734  0 Kommentare Power Assure CTO to Speak at AFCOM Data Center World Spring About Measuring IT Energy Efficiency and Software Defined Power

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 16, 2014) - Power Assure®, Inc., the leading Software Defined Power solutions provider for data centers, today announced that Clemens Pfeiffer, chief technology officer (CTO), will present two sessions at AFCOM Data Center World Spring, taking place April 28 - May 2, 2014 in Las Vegas at the Mirage Resort. Power Assure will also showcase its Software Defined Power solution during the event at booth #1024.

Titled, "Maximizing Energy Efficiency in Data Centers with PAR4," this session will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at 11:00 am.

The cost for electrical energy represents 25-40 percent of the operational expenditures in data centers today with more than half of that energy wasted largely on underutilized servers. The growing demand for server capacity ultimately threatens to exceed the total power and/or cooling capacity available in many data centers, forcing costly upgrades or expansion. These trends have motivated organizations to begin monitoring and managing data center power utilization more effectively. To do this, PAR4 was created. PAR4 is a comprehensive metric for IT energy efficiency tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to comply with UL standard UL2640 to accurately measure IT equipment power usage.

During this session, attendees will learn how to manage the imperative to maintain SLAs in data centers while increasing efficiency; what is stranded power and to free it up and utilize it; how to compare the energy efficiency of different server brands, models and generations; and how to leverage an energy efficiency metric to forecast application load, manage server consolidation and dynamic workload management.

Titled, "Increasing Application Availability Through Software Defined Power," this session will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at 1:45 pm.

The evolution of the Software Defined Data Center considered by many to be the final step in the evolution of virtualization and cloud computing, ignores the main cause of most application outages: Over half of all application downtime today is caused by problems related to power and the adverse impact of power quality and reliability on application availability is only getting worse as problems on the grid become more frequent and longer in duration.

This session will show how Software Defined Power completes the software defined data center, further reducing the risk of outages by matching the IT application load level to the most reliable and cost effective source of power at any given time. Since power itself cannot be moved in the same way as virtual servers, storage and networking, Software Defined Power moves the application load, not just in a disaster situation, but continuously and dynamically, in accordance with application service levels. Software Defined Power achieves this by continuously testing disaster recovery procedures, making them substantially more reliable, at the same time matching on-line resources to application demand both within and across multiple sites with fail-safe verification.
